Grounded in a person-centred approach
I provide a warm, confidential, and non-judgmental space where you can begin to make sense of your life and its challenges. As a qualified person-centred therapist, I specialize in supporting individuals navigating difficult experiences such as childhood sexual abuse, bereavement and grief, female genital mutilation (FGM), trust issues, low self-esteem, confidence struggles, shame, and anxiety.
Having lived abroad for several years in India, Cyprus, and Egypt, I bring a deep appreciation of diverse cultures and religions. This enables me to tailor my approach to each individual’s unique background and experiences. By paying close attention to your thoughts and feelings, I can help you explore your inner world, process the past, and move forward with greater clarity and self-compassion. You don’t have to go through this alone—your journey toward healing starts here.
I am flexible and sensitive to individual needs. Being classified as having a disability and experiencing walking difficulties personally gives me valuable insight into the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities.
I have completed extensive training on child sexual abuse, domestic abuse, and FGM. I also have years of volunteer experience with Victim Support and have worked with Lancashire Constabulary at their Serious Sexual Crimes Unit at Hutton headquarters in Preston.
My Philosophy
My practice is grounded in the person-centred approach, which means your needs are always my focus. I am skilled in therapy, but you are the expert on yourself. The most important factor in counselling is trust. Trust is fundamental to the therapeutic relationship, and a good therapeutic relationship leads to the best results.
One way to know you can trust a counsellor is to check that they are a member of a recognised professional body. This ensures they work within an ethical framework and are properly trained and qualified. I am registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), and you can verify this on their website.
I am also part of the counselling team at York Women’s Counselling Services, an independent charity based in York that supports women to make positive changes in their lives. I have been volunteering with them since 2023.
Talking with me is a good way to find out if you would like to work together. I offer a free 20-minute discovery call, where you can speak to me in confidence. During this call, I will explain what I can offer you, answer any questions, and help you decide if you feel comfortable working with me. There is no commitment at this stage. If you decide to proceed, you can then book a counselling session.
